Janaki Sabesh Biography

Janaki Sabesh is a character artist of Indian cinema known for portraying mother roles in the recent times. She has started playing ‘screen mother’ since mid-1990’s. She is mostly associated with Tamil cinema and has also done a few Telugu movies. Her noted appearances include movies – Singham 1 and 2, Poovellam Un Vasam, Minnale, Khushi, Jeans, Minsaara Kanavu, Enakku 20 Unakku 18, Gilli, Boys, Dhaam Dhoom, Ayan, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and Billa 2. Maro Charitra and 180 are her noted Telugu movies. Her first major break was Minsara Kanavu in 1997, where she appeared in the role of Sister Agnes. Though she stayed in film industry for about 2 decades, she is an accessional actress who has appeared in less than 30 movies.

Janaki Sabesh was born in Bangalore in a Palakkad Iyer family. But later her family moved to Delhi where she completed her schooling and graduation. Minsaara Kanavu in 1997 was her first movie. In her second release, she played Aishwarya Rai’s mother in Jeans where she portrayed her role in a comic touch. After that she was seen in many movies portraying mother’s role to Jyothika, Anushka Shetty, Madhavan, Siddharth Narayan, Vijay etc.  

Her father was against her modelling or working in movies, and asked her to join film industry only after marriage. During college days at Delhi, she assisted Simi Garewal on her series on Rajiv Gandhi. She got married and settled in Mumbai. She later worked in many television commercials, hosted shows, delivered motivational lectures and also rendered her voice as a voice artist. She is also the business manager for Real Image Media Technologies. Though worked in less number of movies, she is always busy with travelling and other sorts of work.
