Hemanta Kumar Sarkar Biography 
Hemanta Kumar Sarkar was a noted writer, journalist and a freedom fighter closely associated with Subhas Chandra Bose. The first biography of Bose was authored by none other than Sarkar and he was one of the founding members of Labour Swaraj Party in Bengal, which led to the partition of Bengal to form a new Hindu homeland. He wrote both in English and Bengali. History of the Bengali Language, The Intellectual Laws of Language, Twelve Years with Subhas, My Jail Experiences and Reminiscences of Deshbandhu are among his published works. He has also served as an editor and was a union leader too.
He was born in 1897 in Baganchra, Nadia of Bengal in British India. Madan Mohan Sarkar, a banker and Kadambari Devi were his parents and he had 5 siblings. He schooled at Krishnagar Collegiate School and got inspired by his new principal Benimadhab Das who introduced him to his former pupil Subhas Chandra Bose. Thus it began a new history – the friendship between Bose and Hemanta. In 1913 Bose stayed with Hemanta in Krishnanagar and the following year they ran away from home in search of a spiritual guru and travelled many places.
They returned back after 3 months hearing the words of Baba Ramakrishnadas who told them that spiritual life is not suited for them. He along with Sailen Ghosh started the Krishnanagar Workmen's Institute which gave free education to working classes in the late evenings. He completed graduation in 1917 and master’s degree in 1919. He was appointed as a lecturer by Ashutosh Mukherjee, University of Calcutta where he taught different subjects. He was associated with freedom struggle movement as well and became one of the founding members of Labour Swaraj party. He founded a Bengali daily named Paschimbanga Patrika and spent his last years in Krishnanagar.
