Harini Biography

 

Harini is a popular playback singer of South Indian cinema who has given numerous hits with A.R.Rehman. She has sung more than 2000 songs and one among the top singers of Tollywood. She has sung a few amazing songs in A.R.Rehman composition like Telephone mani pol of Indian, Alay payuthe Kanna of Alaippayuthe, Azhakaana Raakshasiye of Muthalvan, Suthi suthi of Padayappa, Ada moondrezhuthu of Parthale paravasam, Thottal poo malarum of New (Remixed version of an old melody), Moongil thottum of Kadal, Kathal nayagra of En swasa kaatte, Hello Mr. Ethirkaatchi of Iruvar and Soniya of Rakshagan. She is among the favourite singers of A.R.Rehman, who is her mentor too. Among other songs Ivan yaaro ivan yaaro of Minnale, Megham karukkuthu of Khushi, Aalanguyilil of Parthiban kanavu, Oothapoo of Minsara kanna, Manam virumbuthe unne unne of Nerkku ner, Ore oru of Vengai, Kaadhal Website of Dheena, Poonguyil Paatu  of Nee varuva ena, April maathathil of Vaali, Suttrum Bhoomi and Athaan Varuvaaga of Dum dum dum and Siru paarvayile of Bheema are major Tamil chartbusters of Harini. Among her Telugu songs, Raani Raani of Brothers, Andagaada Andagaada of Gharsana, Cheliya Cheliya of Khushi, Chandamama of Bava Nachadu and Vennello Aadapilla of Aaskasa Veedhilo are popular. She has sung one song for Malayalam movie too - "Muthaaram Muthunde" of Dilip’s movie Mr.Butler in the year 1999.  

 

Harini is a trained Carnatic singer and she started learning since four. Gowri and Radha Viswanathan and later Sudha Raghunathan and Suguna Purushotthaman were her teachers. Her entry to playback singing was just coincidental. She won a singing competition at her school and A.R.Rehman was the chief guest who distributed the prizes. She along with other winners was invited to studio by this great music director to record the voices. When Suhasini Maniratnam stepped into direction with Indira in the year 1995, A.R.Rehman composed the music. Subsequently Harini was called by Suhasini and they gave her the song, Nila Kaigirathu. Harini was only 13 when this song was recorded. A.R.Rehman, impressed by her singing talent give a few memorable songs in the following years. Telephone of Indian, Vaarayo thozhi of Jeans, Soniya of Ratchakan and Hello Mr.Ethirkachi of Iravar are such. Songs sung by Harini for the movies Indian and Ratchakan became blockbusters and later too, this combination has given amazing songs like Azhakana raakshasi of Muthalvan, title song of Alaippayuthey, Sutthi Sutthi of Padayappa and Moongil thottum of Kadal.

 

Year 2000, was a milestone year of her career. Khushi was the mega blockbuster movie of the year and the song ‘Megham karukkuthe’ pictured on Jyothika. Alaippauthey kanna pictured on Shalini was also one such. She has won Tamil state awards twice for movies – Nerukku ner and Parthiban Kanavu.
