Gouthami Biography

Gouthami Tadimalla, shortly known as Gouthami is a very popular actress of South Indian cinema. She was active in the industry till middle 90’s. She has worked in all south Indian languages and a few movies in Bollywood. Now she works as television actress, television host and costume designer. Among Tamil movies, she was most compatible with Kamal Hassan with whom she has done Thevar makan, Kuruthipunal and Apoorva Sagodharargal.  Gouthami was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35 and has successfully fought against it. She was one among the most sought actresses of late 80’s and early 90’s and was active in all south Indian languages and Hindi, especially Tamil. She has also appeared opposite Prabhu Deva in the item song ‘Chikk bukk’ of Gentleman in 1993, perhaps the first item number in Indian film history.

Among her Malayalam movies, Dhruvam opposite Mammootty and His highness Abdulla (Malayalam debut) opposite Mohan lal are her most memorable movies. She has also starred opposite Mammooty in a glamourous role in super hit movie, Jack Pot. Aside Jayaram, comic flick, Ayalathe adheham is her most successful film. Except Jackpot, she has always appeared as a traditional wife in Malayalam movies and was quite successful too. Her other Malayalam movies are Daddy, Sakshyam, Vachalam, Sukrutham, Aayiram Naavulla Ananthan, Chukkam, Vidyarambham and Aagneyam. She was one among those rare actresses of 90’s who was successful with all super stars of Malayalam.  

Among her Bollywood heroes, she was most popular with Mithun Chakravorthy. Together they worked in movies of 90’s - Pyar hua hai chori chori (remake of Malayalam flick – Kilukkam), Teesra kaun, Aadmi and Jantha ki adalat. She has also starred in Subhash ghai’s Trimurthi opposite Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. Her debut movie to film industry was Hndi movie – Andha Kanoon, where she did a small role. The movie starred Big B and Jaya Prada in leading role.  She was most successful in Tamil movies and has acted with almost all superstars. Her memorable movies include – Thevar makan, Seetha, Velai Kidaichuduchu, Enga Oru Kaavalkaran, Kakki Sattai Potta Machan, Ratha Dhanam, Ooru Vittu Ooru Vandhu, Puthiya vaanam, Adhisaya Manithan, Pongi Varum Kaveri, Guru Sishyan, Enga Ooru Mappillai, Panakkaaran and Vaazhkai Sakkaram.   

She has won Tamil Nadu state awards for Nee Pathi Naan Pathi (1991) and Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for Namma Ooru Poovatha.
