Jaya Prada Biography

 

Jaya Prada is a beautiful Indian actress who has worked in all south Indian languages and Bollywood. Debuted in Telugu movies in the year 1975, slowly she travelled to Bollywood movies as well delivering huge hits like Sargam, Tofa, Maa, Sharabi, Sanjog and Kamchor. Among Bollywood heroes, her pairing with Jeetendra and Amitabh Bachchan was noted most. In most Bollywood movies, she was the most sought heroine of 1980’s in the role of house wife in traditional sarees and principles.

 

Born in a middle class family in Andra Pradesh, her passion to classical dance helped her to reach Telugu movies. When she was 14, she was casted for a song picturation in the movie Bhoomikosan that proved to be the stepping stone to her filmy journey. Very soon offers got pouring in and her Telugu Blockbuster movies like Anthuleni Katha, Siri siri muvva, Seetha kalyanam and Avadi Ramadu cemented her as one among the most successful actresses of the decade. She debut Kannada movies in the year 1977 with the movie Sanadi Appannna and Bollywood in the year 1979 with the movie Sargam. She was paired opposite Rajkumar in her Kannada debut movie and along with Rishi Kapoor in her Bollywood movie. She was presented as a classical dancer in Sargam, that goes well with her image and the song ‘Dafli wale’ of Laxmikanth Pyarelal music was a huge success that time. As she was not proficient in Hindi, she couldn’t sustain in the industry despite of having the success of Sargam in her hand. She won her first Filmfare nomination too.

 

She became busy in south Indian movies and after learning Hindi, she returned back to Bollywood. K.Viswanath who offered her the first Bollywood movie re-launched her again in 1982 movie ‘Kamchor’ opposite Rajesh Roshan. Singer Sonu Nigam played child artist role in this movie. Its success and Hindi dictation gave her more roles in Bollywood and she was most successfully paired with Jeetendra and Big B that time. Along with Amitabh Bachchan, she has done Sharabi, Ganga janmuna Saraswathy, Jaadugar, Indrajeet and Aakri Raasta. She was busy in south Indian movies that time and her role in ‘Saagara sangamam’ opposite Kamal Hasan is considered as the best role till now and dubbed in all south Indian languages. She won best actress Telugu awards as well.

 

During middle 90’s she took a temporary break from movies and joined politics. She has been elected twice to Parliament and has served in TDP and Samajwadi party. After a break, she returned to movies with critically well acclaimed movies Pranayam of Malayalam (opposite Mohan Lal and Anupam Kher) and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna of Kannada in the year 2012.
