Ginni Mahi Biography

Ginni Mahi is a Punjabi folk singer, who is also associated with Punjab rap and hip-hop genres of music. Her songs Fan Baba Sahib Di and Danger Chamar shot her to instant fame and went viral over net. She is regular with her stage performances, in India and abroad. As of now she has released two albums - Guraan di Diwani (2015) and Gurupurab hai Kanshi Wale Da (2016). Danger Chamar, Haq, Fan Baba Sahib Di and Ki Hoya Je Main Dhee Hain are the singles she released till now. She's got over 17,000 followers on Facebook. Her songs uploaded to YouTube have lakhs of views, and she reached stardom even before she completed 18. Her songs are truly inspirational, with some kind of message. She is deeply inspired by B.R. Ambedkar and Sant Ravidas.

 

Ginni Mahi was born in the year 1998 in Jalandhar, Punjab. Abadpura is her hometown. Gurkanwal Bharti is her name. Ginni Mahi is the stage name she uses for performances. Rakesh Chander Mahi and Parmjit Kaur are her parents. She educated from Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya College. She wants to be a playback singer in Bollywood and also to study up to a PhD and even beyond.

 

She sings a fiery brand of music called "Chamar Pop". She is influenced by the writings of B R Ambedkar. Punjabi folk, rap and hip hop – her songs is a mix up of all these three, and are catchy and foot-tapping. They are inspiring too. She is deeply religious and a lot of her songs are devotional hymns about Guru Amritbani Guru Ravidass, also a Dalit icon. Her most popular song, Danger Chamar, is inspired by one of her friends telling her "chamars are dangerous”.
