Ghazal Srinivas Biography

Kesiraju Srinivas, popularly known as Ghazal Srinivas is an Indian ghazal singer and musician from Hyderabad, south India. He is also a frame drum player who holds the Guinness World Record for most languages sung. He started singing Telugu ghazals in 1986, uses a frame drum as his only accompaniment and got noticed for this unique rendition. He worked as a librarian for 10 years at different schools before he became active in singing. He played a supporting role in 2005 Telugu language mystery thriller film, A Film by Aravind, directed by Sekhar Puri which was a commercial success. He has been once arrested for harassing a woman for some months. Singer was charged with sexually harassing radio jockey.

 

He was born as Kesiraju Srinivas on 14 October 1966 in Tekkali, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. He is a native of Palakol town in West Godavari District. After studies he worked as a librarian in many schools of Andhra Pradesh, before he forayed into ghazal singing. Apart from Telugu ghazals, he also received success as a frame drum player.

 

He created history by singing 125 songs in 125 Global languages, which entered Guinness book of world records. He also created three Guinness World Records consecutively in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 1999, Srinivas played a lead role in Telugu film “Vichitram” directed by Sri Jandhyala. Then he made a brief appearance in Sekhar Puri’s hit film, A Film by Aravind.

 

He hails from a Niyogi Brahmin family, and was born to Kesiraju Narasimha Rao and Ratnavali. He is the second of 5 children to his parents. His grandfather Sri Kesiraju Venkata Narasimham Panthulu was a freedom fighter.
