G. P. S. Raghava Biography 
Gajendra Pal Singh Raghava, shortly called G. P. S. Raghava is an Indian bio-informatician and head of the Bioinformatics Centre at the Institute of Microbial Technology. Raghava ranked 50th among world-wide bioinformatics heads and 1st in Indian bioinformatics heads according to site Bioinformatics Lab Registry. He is a Member of Editorial Advisory Board of journal The Open Bioinformatics Journal, Recent Patents on DNA & Gene Sequences and Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering. He also holds the position of Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Sciences, BMC Research Notes and BMC Bioinformatics. Dr Raghava has H-index 38 and I10-index 76 as his Google scholar profile as on February 2013.
Raghava was born in Buland Shahr, UP on 25 May 1963. He completed his graduation and post graduation from N.A.S. College, Meerat. Then he took MTech from Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), New Delhi in 1986. In 1996 he received a doctorate in bioinformatics from Institute of Microbial Technology and Punjab University, Chandigarh. Raghava joined the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh in 1986 as a computer scientist and developer. He became head of the Bioinformatics Centre in 1994. He has also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Oxford University and EBI Cambridge during 1996–98.
Throughout his career he has received numerous awards and achievements. He received Young leader award in science and technology at IIM Lucknow National Leadership awards 2011. He has received J. C. Bose National fellowship and prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for 2008. National Bioscience Award for Career Development in 2006 and Thomson Reuters Research Excellence at India Research Front Awards in 2009 also needs mention. Till now, Raghav has published more than 90 research papers in reputed journals.
