Faruk Kaiser Biography

Faruk Kaiser was an Urdu poet who also contributed lyrics to Bollywood oldies. As a film lyrist he was associated with Bollywood from early 1950s to late 1980s. He regularly associated with Bollywood directors like Mohammed Hussain, Kamran Khan, J. Om Prakash, Anwar Pasha, Mahesh Bhatt, Ramsay Brothers, Raj N. Sippy, Ravikant Nagaich, Feroz Khan and Lekh Tandon. He has penned memorable lyrics for movies like Shikaari, Parasmani, Qurbaani, Aji Bas Shukriya, Taxi Driver, Lahu Ke Do Rang (1979), Beqasoor, Disco dancer, Bhagwan Dada, Aitbaar, Aandhi Aur Toofan, Khudgarz, Prince (1969), Jaanbaaz, Kaash etc.

 

Faruk Kaiser was born on June 6, in 1918 into a Jeweller’s family in Mumbai. He had 11 siblings. He completed his education in Mumbai. He exhibited a keen interest in reading books and newspapers, while his siblings were into the family business. He left home at the age of 18 soon after his mother’s death and stayed at a friend’s tailoring premises. In those days he devoted his full time to reading literal works. He also learnt a few languages during this time.

 

Later he developed a friendship with noted stunt and film director, Kamran Khan, for whom he started writing lyrics and worked as an assistant director as well. He also helped Kamran in improving film dialogues. Kamran Khan was the father of famous film celebrities – Farah Khan and Sajid khan. His love to poetry was one reason why he started writing lyrics. He later proposed Aisha, sister of his close friend and actor Kamal Mohan. They got married in 1958. The couple had three children.

 

Some of his memorable lyrics of Bollywood include - Oee Ma Oee Ma Yeh Kya Ho Gaya of Parasmani (1963), Sari Sari Raat Teri Yaad Sataye of Aji Bas Shukriya (1958), Tum Aur Main Aur Yeh Bekhudi of Aitbaar (1985), Aaj Hi Dil Tu De of Bhagwan Dada (1986), Auva Auva  Koi Yahaan Aha Naache Naache of Disco dancer (1982), Tujhe Pe Qurbaan Meri Jaan of Qurbaani (1980), Baad Muddat Ke Hum Tum Mile of Kaash (1987), Jaanbaaz Jaan Ki Baazi Lagane Wala of Jaanbaaz (1986) etc.
