Dinakara Desai Biography 
Dinakara Desai was an Indian social worker, writer, educationist, and political activist from Karnataka who lived in the 20th century. As a writer, he mostly writes poetry and most works were related to politics. He was also a politician who served as Member of Parliament. He was the founder chairman of Kanara Welfare Trust back in 1953. He spearheaded literary development in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. He was an atheist. He died at Mumbai on 6 November 1982. He was suffering from chronic diabetes for a while.
Desai was born into a Konkani speaking family in Ankola, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. He was born on 10 September 1909. Dattatray Desai and Ambika were his parents and he was born as their third child. He had three siblings. He lost his mother at the age of 9. His father worked as a primary school teacher in Alageri, a tiny village near Ankola and Desai’s younger days were spent here. His primary education was done here, followed by Ankola. He later studied at Bangalore, Mysore and Mumbai, where he completed MA from St. Xavier's College in 1933. He also completed LLB in 1934.
Two years later he married Indira in a simple marriage ceremony and though he was an atheist, he didn’t disapprove his wife’s worship to god. The couple had two daughters, and both are now settled with their marriage lives. Primarily he wanted to become a lawyer, but got involved with labour unions. In the post-independent period, he contributed towards labour movement in India. Desai served as Corporator in Mumbai Municipal Corporation from 1948 to 1961. He unsuccessfully contested parliamentary elections in 1952 and finally got elected in 1967. As an independent candidate he represented Kanara Lok Sabha Constituency.
