Darshan Lal Jain Biography 
Darshan Lal Jain is a social worker, activist and educationist best known for educating young girls and financially troubled children. For his contributions towards social service, Government of India honoured him with the third highest civilian honour - Padma Bhushan in 2019. He is also an educator who founded many educational institutions in the state of Haryana, which include both schools and colleges. He was also a freedom fighter who participated in Quit India Movement while at school. When his school headmaster appealed for support from students for the war efforts of British, he stood up alone in the prayer assembly at the school, and this incident happened in 1943.
Darshan Lal Jain was born on 12 December 1927 in Haryana. He was born into an influential industrialist family of Yamunanagar district. Initially, he took take interest in the family business. But later he got inclined towards social work. Jain was sharp minded and filled with the spirit of patriotism, right from the childhood. During his younger days, he was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. When there was ban of Khadi dress in his school, he was one among those rare students who were courageous enough to resist the ban and wear Khadi at school. He participated in the Quit India Movement at the age of 15.
Jain dedicated his life to the welfare of society and has been a crusader of education. He has been working tirelessly for education to girls and poor children. Best known as an educationalist, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Jagadhri (1954), DAV College for Girls, Yamunanagar, Bharat Vikas Parishad Haryana, Vivekanand Rock Memorial Society, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram Haryana, Hindu Shiksha Samiti Haryana, Geeta Niketan Residential School, Kurukshetra, and Nand Lal Geeta Vidya Mandir, Ambala (1997) are among the educational institutions started by him.
