D. Karthika Anagha Biography

D. Karthika Anagha is a South Indian classical vocalist from south India. She was awarded of the Bal Shree Award in (2007, a national award given by the President of India. She received this award as a child. She was the recipient of Pt. Jasraj's award in 2009. D. Karthika Anagha has performed over 400 concerts. Persuaded music at the age of three, she gave her first music concert at Kalabharati in Visakhapatnam at the age of 7. She belongs to a family with strong musical tradition.

 

She belongs to a musical family of Andhra Pradesh. Everybody is a star, but each member wanted to put Karthika’s name in limelight. It was her grandfather who spotted her interest in music Child prodigy, Karthika started singing by the age of three. She could identify ragas, repeat phrases and sing complicated swarams and everyone was fascinated. She received initial training in Carnatic music under MSN Murthy and then Pantula Rama. She learnt music under Neela Ramgopal at Bangalore, and Karthika regards her as her role model. She also learnt music from Raghavachari of Hyderabad Brothers and is now a student of Malladi Suribabu.

 

Karthika has balanced academics and music well. She has done her Masters in Mass Communication from St. Francis College in Begumpet. She also holds a degree in Carnatic music and currently pursuing her Ph. D in ethnomusicology in the U.K. She focused on gender study in her Masters in Carnatic music, and currently researching on more specific topics. Karthika believes that every concert has helped her evolve as a performer. Her full name is Devarakonda Karthika Anagha, and she was born on June 29, 1991.
