Chandrakant Raghunath Patil Biography

Chandrakant Raghunath Patil is an Indian politician from Maharashtra who currently serves as a Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha since 2014. He belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party. Currently he represents Navsari constituency of Gujarat, and won election with a record margin of 5,58,116 votes. He was an agriculturist and businessman before he joined active politics in the late 1980s. He is also associated with several social and cultural activities of Maharashtra. He is the first MP to get ISO certification for his office. He was given the certificate for his office for efficient quality management system.

Patil was born in Jalgaon, Maharashtra in the year 1955. He is married to Ganga and the couple has 1 son & 3 daughters. He was associated with agriculture and business during his early days. He joined the Surat police in 1975 as a police constable, and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 1989. Within four years he became the Surat District President. But he got defamed for many allegations. His political career too was not free of corruption or scams. In 2002, the Crime Branch arrested Mr. Patil as the chief defaulter in the Diamond Jubilee Cooperative Bank scam, when he failed to repay a loan of 54 crores to a co-operative bank. He remained in jail for 15 months.

Later he took 48 acres of land at Sachin to construct 65,000 flats for textile labourers, which also ended in corruption allegations. As of now, 103 cases have been registered against him, of which 96 are cleared by 2015. Apart from his career as a politician and agriculturist, he also serves as the editor and publisher of Gujarati daily newspaper `Nav Gujarat Times` since 1991.
