Chandan Tiwari Biography

Chandan Tiwari is a folk singer from Bhojpur district, Bihar. She sings in Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili, Nagpuri, Awadhi and Hindi languages, and is best known for her folk songs, mostly in Kajri and Thumri forms. She is a recipient of Lok Ratna Samman by both Gazhipur and Kushinagar, Bahin-Bahinpa Samman by Darbhanga, Bhojpuria Ratna Samman by Bhopal, Ganga Samman from Balia, Sarokar Samman from Ranchi, Mahamana Sangeet Samman from Varanasi, Bhikhari Thakur Samman from Jamshedpur and many more titles given by cultural groups of different states across north and mid India. She has performed in many cultural events organized by state governments of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and she also sings for Tv shows and serials.

 

Chandan Tiwari hails from Badka Gaon, Bhojpur District, Bihar state. She grew up in Chas Bokaro, Jharkhand. She holds a graduation degree in Psychology from Vinoba Bhave University. She also studied Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad for 6 years. She sings folk songs in different languages. Yet her songs in Bhojpuri language are most popular. She has been featured in My Musical Effort – a musical show aired on Doordarshan. Her songs have also appeared in TV serials such as Purabiyataan and Nimiya chiraiyan ke baser.

 

Chandan Tiwari has also hosted a few TV shows, related to folk music, and also radio programs for Radio Mirchi, Radio Dhoom, Radio Saneh etc. She has always been against vulgarity in the music industry. She also sings songs related to social themes and social issues. She has performed in Kajari Mahotsav and Bhojpuri Mahotsav, organized by Madhya Pradesh Government. She has sung in cultural events of Varanasi, Jamshedpur, Ranchi etc.
