Carsten Wicke Biography 
Carsten Wicke is a musician who plays Rudra Veena. He is of German Origin. He learnt western violin and vocal music as a child, and later learnt Hindustani music from different gurus since 1990s. He learnt different Indian musical instruments like tabla from Pandit Anindo Chatterjee in Kolkata, traditional Rudra Veena from Ustad Asad Ali Khan in Khandarbani Style and also Dagarbani Dhrupad from Ashish Sankrityayan. Wicke currently lives in India, busy with his musical concerts. He is now based in Kolkata. Wicke also develops and manufactures new veenas in collaboration with local craftsmen in Kolkata.
He was born in Germany on 16 February 1970. He got drawn towards Indian classical forms of music and hence stayed in India learning music from different renowned musicians and vocalists. He started with tabla and later learnt Hindustani vocal as well, before finally settling with Rudra Veena. Currently he is best known for playing this music instrument. Tabla Maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee in Kolkata was his first master of Indian music. He learned Violin and Vocal Music as a child while at Germany.
He got fascinated by the old classical Dhrupad music and met Rudra Veena Master Padma Bhushan Ustad Asad Ali Khan. He mastered this music instrument from renowned guru and then earned fame in this field. He also tried with other Indian musical forms, learning a little bit, yet he loves Rudra Veena among all. Today he is one of the very few international rudra veena performers, and his music sense is appreciated by both Indian music lovers and listeners of music from other nations. He has also done a few documentary works related to India’s traditional music.
