C. S. Venkataraman Biography 
C. S. Venkataraman was a famous mathematician from Kerala, who lived in the 20th century. He was popularly known as CSV. He specialized in the theory of numbers, and his forte was the theory of arithmetic functions. Famous mathematicians, R. Vaidyanathaswamy and K. Ananda Rau were his advisors, under whom he studied and completed research works. Well known for his magnetic personality with his very fair complexion and handsome charming appearance, he was nicknamed "Lord Mountbatten" by the colleagues and students during his heydays. He lived during the period, 14 September 1918 - 16 March 1994.
CSV hailed from Thrissur, Kerala. Chelakara was his native village. He completed his early education from Thiruvananthapuram in Travancore Kingdom. He continued his studies in Presidency College, Chennai. During his studies at Chennai, he was a student of famous mathematician, eminent K. Ananda Rau, who was a contemporary and a friend of Ramanujan. In the pre-independent era, many students who studied at Presidency College were inspired to become mathematicians by some of the eminent professors there, and CSV was one among those who was encouraged by Ananda Rau to follow the same suit.
He also got into touch with mathematical genius R. Vaidyanathaswamy almost at the same period in the 1930s, when he got selected as a research scholar in the Department of Mathematics of Madras University to do research in Theory of Arithmetic function under this eminent professor. He also got into touch with senior research scholars like P Kesava Menon and K G Ramanathan during those years. This mathematician is best known for his contributions to Theory of numbers. He was a member of Indian Mathematical Society ever since 1945, and he used to represent Kerala at conferences and meetings for a long time.
