Bonnie Chakraborty Biography

Bonnie Chakraborty is a playback singer and music producer from West Bengal. He sings in Hindi, Tamil and Bengali languages. He was the lead vocalist of Kolkata based band Krosswindz until 1998 before he started his solo journey. Bonnie has released four Bengali albums up-to-date. He has worked with leading music composers of film industry like A. R. Rahman, Jeet Ganguly, Ram Sampath, Amit Trivedi, Shantanu Moitra etc. He got opportunity to sing the songs – Rasiya of Mangal Pandey - The Rising, Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah of Jodha Akhbar and Hey Kaala Bandar of Delhi-6 for A. R. Rahman. He sang the song - Nikal pado Re Bandhu for the TV series on Star Plus, Satyamev Jayate hosted by Aamir Khan.

 

Bonnie Chakraborty hails from Kolkata. He was associated with a music band, Krosswindz before he started his career as a playback singer. Along with Neil Mukherjee, he released one album for Zee Music titled Kashti. The songs became popular only in Mumbai circle. Later the band got split and Bonnie started a new rock band Oikyotaan along with Kartick das Baul followed by his fourth band - Moheener Ghoraguli. Bonnie is known for promoting young talents of the music field. Oikyotaan was a six-member band from Chennai led by Bonnie Chakraborty. It included Bengali folk apart from modern Western musical forms such as rock and jazz. Chakraborty played the lead vocalist’s role while Kartick das Baul was the composer.

 

Bonnie spent long eight years with different bands in Kolkata before he became fully active with playback singing. He got his first break through the film, Mangal Pandey - The Rising in 2005 composed by Rahman. Since then he has rendered his voice for songs belonging to Hindi, Tamil and Bengali languages. In 2014 he sang the song Rayile Raa for Tamil film, Thirumannam Ennum Nikkah composed by M. Ghibran. Zindagi Kahin Bhi Thamti Nahi of Buno Haansh, Sleeping Piller Raat of C/O Sir, Hate Tomar Kaita Rekha of Shukno Lanka etc are some of his Bengali works.
