Biswajit Roy Chowdhury Biography 
Pandit Biswajit Roy Chowdhury is a Hindustani musician who plays the string musical instrument, Sarod. He has collaborated with great musicians like Amjad Ali Khan, Mallikarjun Mansur etc for his music concerts, and remained their foremost disciple too. He belongs to the Senia Bangash gharana of sarod playing, and has also learnt Jaipur-Atrauli tradition. Chowdhury is an acclaimed artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan. He regularly performs in annual cultural events and music festivals arranged by these organizations over the years. He is perhaps the only artist who plays sarod in Jaipur-Atrauli tradition.
Pandit Biswajit Roy Chowdhury was born in Deoghar, Jharkhand on 12 January 1956. His father Ranjit Roy Chowdhury was a Chemistry teacher interested in music and a sarod player too. He introduced young Roy to the world of music at a younger age. He later took formal training under Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, followed by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan who spotted his talent. He also trained in different traditions of sitar under different gurus like Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya.
He was accepted as a disciple by Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur in the early 1980s, which proved to be a turning point of his music career. There were situations where his guru had wake him up at 2:30 am in the morning and started teaching. In fact he also assisted his guru for music concerts later. He was trained under this guru till his demise in 1992. Renowned musician Chowdhury owes his musical expertise to his gurus, predominantly Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and the late Mallikarjun Mansur. Both these gurus with different styles of music played a magnificent role in shaping his career.
