Bhanu Gupta Biography 
Bhanu Gupta was an Indian musician who worked as an assistant in Indian film music industry. He worked as a guitarist and harmonist for the recordings of R. D. Burman and many other legendary music composers of the industry. He has played musical instruments for some of the iconic tunes of R. D. Burman for movies like Teesri Manzil, Khel Khel Mein, Padosan, Sholay, 1942 A Love Story, Aandhi, Darling Darling, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Rocky etc. He got associated with the composer right from his early phase of 1960s in Hindi cinema, and was also associated with him till his last work, 1942 A Love Story in 1994. Bhanu Gupta – R. D. Burman duo is widely regarded as one of the iconic music duos of Bollywood.
Bhanu Gupta was born on December 12, 1930 in Rangoon, Burma. At the age of 12, he worked as an English interpreter in the Japanese army, at a monthly salary of rupees 400. Thus he witnessed the World War II so close, as a part of his job as an interpreter. His family was also associated with Indian National Army and Subhas Chandra Bose. He received a plastic harmonica as a gift at the age of 15, and got interest in it. Till then he was not associated with the world of music. After independence, in the 1950s his family settled in Kolkata.
He was a sportsman interested in sport events such as swimming, boxing and cricket, and has also played First Division Cricket in Calcutta League. He used to play harmonica in nightclubs and cabarets frequently. As sportsperson has less opportunities, he chose music over sports, though he was equally interested in both. His first break came with the film Paigham for music director C Ramchandra. He later worked with Salil Chowdhury and Madan Mohan before joining R. D. Burman’s team permanently in the 1960s.
