Atanu Ghosh Biography

Atanu Ghosh is a critically acclaimed Bengali film director and screenwriter known for the works, Angshumaner Chhobi (2009), Takhan Teish (2010) and Rupkatha Noy (2013). He has also directed and written the screenplays of many tele films. A few of them have been shown in several international film festivals and won many international awards for best direction, screenplay and acting categories. He has worked with Indrani Halder, Kaushik Sen, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Swastika Mukherjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Rituparna Sen and Neel Mukherjee as a part of tele films.

A few of such tele films need special mention. In 2004, Sumitra Online won Telesamman for Best Telefilm of 2004. Akashchhoya (2003) was selected in 2nd Kolkata Telefilm Festival and 10th Kolkata International Film Festival, 2004. 700 Square Ft (2004) was Nominated as Best Telefilm of the year in the Anandolok Puraskar, 2004 and selected in 2nd Kolkata Telefilm Festival. Megh Bristi Rodh won RAPA Award for Best screenplay in the year 2005. Asomapto won best direction award at Tellysamman in 2005. Aaloy Phera received a nomination for Tellysamman for Best Telefilm of 2007. Ankush was nominated for Best Telefilm in Anandalok Puraskar 2007.

Atanu Ghosh was born in Kolkata. He took post-graduation in journalism from the University of Calcutta. Ghosh started his career in 1996 as a scriptwriter and director of documentary films. His first association was with Doordarshan, ‘Pioneers of Indian Science’ being the first work. Later he wrote for serials and telefilms. Atanu received Doordarshan National Award for Best Children's telefilm Aar ek Bampi in 2002. He shot to fame when his tele film, Akashchhoan got selected for the 10th International Kolkata Film Festival, 2004. After that he made a series of telefilms which won international appreciation.
