Sabyasachi Chakrabarty Biography

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty is an actor who works in Bengali movies and television. He is widely regarded as one of the most talented and prolific actors of West Bengal and popular all over India. He got married to popular actress of Bengali cinema, Mithu Chakrabarty in 1986. He has two sons Gaurav and Arjun, two upcoming artists of Bengali cinema. He is a great lover of nature and forests also and wild photography is his hobby. His role as Feluda in Satyajit Ray’s Feluda series on Doordarshan is still nostalgic for many.

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty was born on September 8, 1956 in Kolkata to Jagadish Chandra Chakrabarty and Monica Chakrabarty. His pet name was Benu. He passed Higher Secondary Examination from Andrew's High School, Kolkata in 1975. Later he took B.Sc from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He completed AMI examination from Delhi in 1978. As an actor, his first major works were for television. In 1987, he debut small screen with TV series Tero Parbon for Kolkata Doordarshan channel where he played lead role. Through the character named Gora, he became popular all over Bengal. In 1992, he made big screen debut with Tapan Sinha’s film Antardhan (Bengali). Though he worked in movies, he worked in television too in parallel. In between he got involved with theater work also. He joined Charbak theatre group in 1983.

Later Chakrabarthy directed a few television serials and has also done a few programs for kids.As a film actor, his roles in Bengali movies - Antardhan, Sweth Pathorer Thala, Mahulbanir Sereng are well noted. He has also appeared in a few Bollywood movies like Khakee, Parineeta and Mira Nair's The Namesake. In 2002 Chakrabarty was awarded the Best director award for Ek Je Aachhe Kanya at Anandalok Awards. In 2004 he received Best Actor award for his performance in Bombaiyer Bombete at the same award function.
