Apsara Reddy Biography

Apsara Reddy is an Indian politician and journalist from the state of Tamil Nadu. She is a transgender who currently serves as the spokesperson of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. As a sucessful journalist, Reddy has worked with the BBC World Service, The Hindu, Commonwealth Secretariat, New Indian Express and Deccan Chronicle, and has wrote columns on wide range of topics for different forms of publications. She has also worked as an anchor for a TV show, Natpudan Apsara which was aired on Thanthi TV. She is India’s first transgender editor, and currently affiliated to politics and BJP.

 

Reddy graduated in Journalism from Monash University and completed her Master’s in Broadcasting from City University in London. After completing her studies in journalism and broadcasting, she worked as a journalist and reporter for many organizations. She has also interviewed many celebrities belonging to different fields. She briefly worked with UNICEF to launch a health campaign across Tamil Nadu. Currently she is associated with regional politics and serves as the spokesperson of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

 

She was born as a boy, Ajay Reddy. But he wanted to become a girl and used to dress up like a girl. Thinking that it’s only childhood pranks, her family members encouraged him when he dressed up like a girl or plaited his hair. But in the deep corner of heart she felt like a girl. Her father Ramesh Reddy belonged to a well-educated family in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. Since young her mother Anuradha Reddy remained her true inspiration. Her father was alcoholic who had constant issues with her mother. Her grandfather left his entire property for her.
