Anurag Singh (musician) Biography

Anurag Singh is an Indian musician who plays the very rare string instrument, Vichitra Veena. He is the son of Brahm Sarup Singh, the legendary musician and vichitra veena artist of 20th century. His grandfather Harnam Singh was also a renowned artist of vichitra veena. Anurag Singh learnt music from his father, and is now following his legacy. He has given numerous public concerts across North India. He is also a music teacher who works at DAV public school, Delhi since 1989. He was honoured with National Award in Vichitra Veena Recital in the years 1997, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

 

Anurag Singh was born on 2 September 1966 into a musically rich family. Born as the son of Abhinandan Patra Brahm Sarup Singh, he too followed the footsteps of his father and grandfather and taking the legacy forward. His grandfather Harnam Singh was a disciple of Ustad Abdul Aziz Khan of Patiala. He also received training in sitar and advanced training in vichitra veena. He also completed Master of Music in Vocal Classical Music, Sangeet Visharad (graduation) in Vichitra Veena and Sitar, Senior Diploma in Guitar and bachelor of music in Tabla. Later he started his professional career as a music teacher at Delhi, along with his music concerts.

 

He has composed many Sanskrit Shlokas and Qawwalis for which he received Delhi Sanskrit Academy Award in 2014. He performed in Grand Symphony Orchestra with the Art of Living foundation in the World Cultural Festival 2016, one of his major performances. Over the years, he has given numerous performances on All India Radio as well as Doordarshan.
