Alpesh Thakor Biography

Alpesh Thakor is an Indian politician from the state of Gujarat. Initially he was associated with Indian National Congress and now a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was sitting MLA of Gujarat representing Radhanpur during 2017–2019. In 2019 state by-polls he contested as Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Radhanpur and faced a major defeat. He is a leader of the Koli Thakor community in Gujarat and founder of Gujarat Kshatriya-Thakor Sena. He is known for his fights for the rights of OBC, SC and ST communities, and unifying them through OSS, founded by him. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party only in 2019. Initially he was a social activist who joined politics only in 2017.

 

Alpesh Thakor was born on 7 November 1975 in Gujarat. Initially he was a social activist. He founded the Kshatriya Thakor Sena in 2011, and led many movements for the rights of the Thakor community in Gujarat. He played an important role in bringing out members of his Thokar community from liquor addiction, and stood against illegal trading of alcoholic drinks in Gujarat. He launched a movement to counter the Patidar reservation agitation by Hardik Patel, which brought him to limelight. He founded OBC, SC, ST Ekta Manch, bringing all these communities together and fought for their rights.

 

He mobilized voters against BJP alongside Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani, which earned him a lot of followers across the state. He joined the Indian National Congress party in 2017 and successfully contested state assembly elections from Radhanpur constituency. He quit the Indian National Congress in 2019 and switched to Bharatiya Janata Party. However he got defeated in bypoll from Radhanpur and lost the seat by margin of 3500 votes.
