Alimineti Madhava Reddy Biography

Alimineti Madhava Reddy was an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He belonged to Telugu Desam Party, and was a prominent leader in state level politics. He served as an MLA of Andhra Pradesh state assembly 4 times, representing Bhongir constituency. Reddy started his political career in 1981, and was fully active in his political career till his death in 2000.

He served as an MLA and minister for Panchayat Raj & Rural Development from 11 October 1999 until his death. Reddy held several portfolios in the state cabinet headed by both N.T. Rama Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu. He was killed in a landmine blast triggered by Naxalites near Ghatkesar on 7 March 2000, while he was serving as a state minister. He was only 51 years old then.

Alimineti Madhava Reddy was born in Wadaparthy, Bhongir, Nalgonda District, present day Telangana on 28 February 1949. Alimineti Narsa Reddy and Lakshmamma were his parents. He was married to Uma Devi and had two daughters and one son. Reddy completed electrical engineering from Osmania University in 1974. He joined active politics in 1981.

He successfully contested Andhra Pradesh state assembly elections in 1985 from Bhongir, and he repeated success three more times. Prior to his entry in state assembly, he was elected as Sarpanch of Wadaparthy, his hometown in 1981. As an MLA representing TDP, he has served as a cabinet minister multiple times.

He served as the Minister for Health & Medical Education for a brief period during 1994 – 1995, following which he was appointed as home minister. He served that position from September 1995 to 1999, for 4 long years, following which he was given the portfolio Panchayat Raj & Rural Development in 1999. However he was assassinated in a landmine blast by People's War Group of Naxalites in 2000.
