A. P. Abdullakutty Biography

A. P. Abdullakutty is an Indian politician from the state of Kerala. He is the Acting-President and Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party. He has formerly associated with both left and right parties in Kerala, and has represented in state legislative assembly and Parliament. He was associated with Communist Party of India (Marxist) till 2009, followed by Indian National Congress (2009 - 2019) and Bharathiya Janata Party since 2019 after general elections. He was expelled from Congress for praising Modi Government for their success in Lok Sabha elections.

 

A. P. Abdullakutty started his political journey with Communist Party of India in 1990s. He got elected to Lok Sabha on CPI (M) ticket for the first time and was one of the youngest MPs of the country at that time. He was expelled from Communist party of India in 2009, for praising Modi and faced disciplinary action. He was serving as MP of Kannur then. He then jumped ship and joined Congress almost overnight. He has been a two-term Congress MLA since then. He was expelled from Congress party in 2019, and he joined Bharatiya Janata Party.

 

It was speculated that he was moving closer to Narendra Modi and BJP. After a meeting held with PM Narendra Modi and BJP President Mr Amit Shah on 24 June 2019, he has been formally invited by BJP and he has formally joined BJP two days later. He also received the BJP membership from party working president Mr. J.P. Nadda. Currently he serves as the Acting-President and Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala. He is married to Dr. V. N. Rosina since 2000, and has two children.
