As the saying goes ‘A sound mind in a sound body’, a healthy body ensures a healthy mental state too. Though complementary to each other, there are ways in which we can keep out of stress. One such beautiful practice is Yoga. I was not aware of the goodness of yoga until the age of 33. One of my friends introduced me to a Yoga class. She asked me to just observe the class for ten minutes. I was really impressed when I observed the people who attended the class.
They were mostly house-wives who found it difficult to keep themselves fit. They said that they usually rested in the afternoon, after heavy house-hold work in the morning and started putting on weight. But when I looked no one was overweight. They also had a glow in their skin. After the session, I could find them going home with radiance in their face and relaxation in their mind.
The very next day I joined the class. It started at 11.30 am. We were asked not to have anything to eat or drink from 8.30 am onwards. This itself gave me a self control and reduced the intake of unwanted junk food in the mid day with tea. This way I was able to cut some calories. During the class, we needed at least two towels to dry ourselves from the sweat. Once I started doing yoga, I found myself relaxing and my anger just vanished from my mind. I became a rational person. My mind and body became flexible and I could adjust to any physical and mental stress thereafter. Of course, I started losing excess body weight. My face and skin too started becoming shining and soft.
After a month, I started doing Yoga at my home. Since I have attended class for one whole month, I have learned whatever is necessary to keep myself fit and relaxed. If I stop practicing it, I can see my body gaining weight and stress level increasing in my mind. So, I stick on to doing Yoga at least twice in a week for 20 minutes. This keeps me fit and relaxed.
