Thiruvizha Mahadeva temple is situated in Cherthala and Lord Siva is in ‘Neel Kanta’ form. It’s believed that a divine medicine given from this temple can remove dirt and toxins of your body and gives you freshness in return. This medicine is good for depression, mental distortion and upset happened to body due to intake of contradictory food items. It’s believed that the devotee vomits out the toxins given by his enemies through food substances. It is also seen as the remedy to remove poisonous substances accidentally intake along with food. Film stars of South, political leaders and business man – many celebrities have stayed in this temple to take this miraculous medicine. It’s a religious belief too.

Yes, intake of medicine has a deep co-relation with one’s beliefs and everyday hundreds of devotees come to this temple too. It’s believed that only through the blessing of Lord Siva, this medicine is playing miraculous effects on patients. But children below 15, pregnant women and heart patients are not allowed to take this medicine. Persons who serve this medicine should never take any drugs at least for last 3 days. One person should accompany him too. Now it costs 250 rupees.

There is a story related to this medicine. The ingredients of this medicine were told to an employee of this temple in a dream. It happened so. When this employee leaves the temple after pooja with ‘Nivedyam’ (rice food served to deity) a mad man used to attack him daily and snatches his food. Thus this poor man and family suffered a lot. In dreams, a person came and showed him a plant found in the temple premises. He also suggested that melshanti (first priest) should crush this plant’s leaves, mix it with milk and place it for ‘Pantheeradi’ pooja. Then this employee was asked to place 3 Ana (an old coin) before the step and give the medicine to the mad man. He was also asked to give him hot water after a little time.

The employee did what he saw in his dreams and a little time after hot water was given, this mad man started vomiting and as seen in dreams, he gave him milk payasam, Nivedyam of Yakshi Amma after the noon pooja. The mad man stopped vomiting and he became normal. Hearing this story, people began to come from different regions, took medicine and returned back with positive signs.

It’s believed that Yakshi Amma of the temple is also significant along with Mahadeva. So the patient stood stay in the temple premises for a day before he takes medicine. Rooms should be booked and he should take part in evening poojas as well as early morning poojas to get complete blessing of Yakshiamma. Then only medicine gives best results. It’s the beliefs of the devotees.
