Mother Teresa And Her Leadership Qualities

Mother Teresa won the hearts of millions of people due to her great qualities and her graceful conducts. She served the poor and orphaned people for more than four decades and had never felt exhausted in her works. She fondly cared the lepers and treated them. When people affected with leprosy was considered as untouchables and leprosy was thought to be a contagious disease in those days, she cared for them and dressed their wounds with utmost care. She showed great patience in treating them.

When she entered into the missionary life she barely had three saris and her monetary possessions were just a five rupee note. She was able to achieve what she wanted even without money in her hands. She was courageous and dared bad days. When orphan children were dying without food, she could not tolerate this and so went to a bakery man and asked him to donate some bread. But the man had no soft corner in him and spit on her hand. She said that she will keep the spit for herself and holding out her other hand asked him to give something to ear for the poor dying children. The man realized her mission and became one of the important bread donors later on. She was magnanimous in times of hardships and dared any evil that came her way. But she did not stop her service for anything.

She did not care for her own comforts that her sari was hardly one US dollar worth. The white sari with blue border that she wore became a symbol of peace for the downtrodden and underprivileged people. She put herself into sufferings to heal other people. She had an important hand in spreading the message of famine in Ethiopia to the then US President. Ronald Reagan was the president of United States during those times and due to her efforts he made arrangements to send food and medicine to the place.

She was too humble to be true. Whenever she traveled in airplane she had made it a habit to collect the leftover food from the passengers of the flight. She distributed that to the hungry and needy people. Even though she had no money to help the poor, she stooped down to beg for others. She never felt ashamed of begging money for the sake of the needy people. These rare qualities made her service grow and open many missionary centers all around the world.

She extended her helping hand to the blind people and refugees, to the flood and famine victims and to the homeless and poor sufferers. She gave medical attention to the dying people and helped them to die with dignity. During their last moments, Quran was read to Muslims, Ganges water was fed to Hindus and Last Rites were performed to Christians. Though she was a Christian this incident is just enough to show her generosity.

She died on 5th September 1997. Museums and educational institutions were started in her memory. Films were made on her life and awards were given to her social works. She left thousands of followers who took up her service though she was not among them.
