From Baazigar To Don - 20 Years Of SRK

Shah Rukh Khan entered Bollywood through a series of movies in 1992 – King Uncle, Raju Ban gaya gentleman, Maya Meimsaab and Deewana. Except Raju ban gaya gentleman, he was just a part of those movies. Then he tried to attempt something new and it happened in Baazigar. He, through his remarkable performance made people love his villain role in Baazigar. Though his character Ajay killed two three people in the movie, audience cried in theatre when he was shot dead at the climax. That’s the real success of an actor; despite the role played by an actor, people love the actor than the character and its bad and good deeds. This movie earned him his first Filmfare for best actor too. Now he has reached a stage that only heroine’s award is left for him, accumulating maximum Filmfare awards and nominations in acting category.

Baazigar was released in Nov 12, 1993 and this year it is successfully completing 20 years. Along with it, it makes us remember that as a successful solo actor, King Khan has also completed 20 years, though he has been here for 21 years. When SRK decided to do the hero role in Baazigar, even the trademark villains warned him not to accept the film as it may damage his career. He was just 1 year old in Bollywood that time and a struggling baby. Yet he took it as a challenge and proved everyone that people admired the villain in the movie more than anyone else. He has even dared to two more negative shaded characters before he became a part of historical DDLJ – Anjaam and Darr. Only a few actors in Bollywood carry such a solid mind to take challenges by putting his ‘young career’ at risk. Perhaps it may be the reason why SRK looks distinct from other heroes. Now heroes like Hritik, Big B and Aamir are willingly doing negative shades, a particular sector the leading actors have never attempted to experiment with.  Yes, no doubt, Shah Rukh Khan and his success of Baazigar serve a lot of energy for such followers to take such challenging roles.

Now it is villain’s time and SRK has most recently done another negative shade character – Don 2. But now, it’s not at all surprising that people love this ‘villain’ a lot irrespective of the roles he take. In the past 20 years, SRK has lost his innocent and chocolate looks. But he has emerged as the matured actor staying as great wall of Bollywood, unchallengeable! Perhaps in the next 20 years, he may witness a few more surprising roles from King Khan. Wishing him all the very best.
