An Overview Of Uttar Pradesh

 

Uttar Pradesh is one of the beautiful states of India. Each part of Uttar Pradesh is different in its foods, dresses and cultures making the state a concoction of varieties. This variety is what that makes Uttar Pradesh unique and stand out of other places. The state of Uttar Pradesh is related to the life of each one of us in some way or other. The history that was taught in our young age would have mentioned about the Saranath pillar with four lions. This is indeed situated in Uttar Pradesh. Half of the story of the great Hindu epic Ramayana is said to have taken place here. Mangal Pandey who sowed the seed for the First War of Indian Independence was from Meerut region of Uttar Pradesh.

 

The holy rivers Ganges, Yamuna and Sarayu flow through this region making it fertile land. The biggest industrial city in India, Kanpur is located here. Kanpur is the leader of the automobile industry and leather tanning industry. Noida, the information technology capital of India is also in UP.

 

The various tourist places and pilgrimage centers like Ayodhya, the place of Lord Rama, Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna, Aligarh where the world famous university is situated, Agra, the house of one of the Seven Wonders of the World Taj Mahal and Allahabad and Kasi or Banaras, the popular pilgrimage centers are all situated in Uttar Pradesh. Every Hindu wants to go to Banaras at least once in his lifetime. Silk traders get this chance quite often as they come here to purchase the world famous Banaras silk.

 

Uttar Pradesh not only houses the holy places of Hindus but also that of Buddhists. It was in Soukandi Stoopa that Buddha met his disciples for the first time. Also he started his preaching in Saranath and he attained his Mukthi at Kushinagar. Though these places do not have much importance in India, they are quite popular among the people of China, Japan and Sri Lanka where Buddhism is followed by majority of the people.

 

The traditional dance of Uttar Pradesh is Kathak. It is also a center of Hindustani music. The staple food of people is chapathi, roti, dhal, papad and chats. Samosa, sola puri and chokka items are served for snacks. The place is famous for its Mughal foods namely kebab, kofta, keema, korma, paratha, biriyani, etc. Islam and Hinduism are the major religions followed. All the major festivals like Diwali, Holi, Dasara, Ramleela, Durga Pooja, Eid, Bakrid and Moharam are celebrated here grandly. No doubt each one of us have some connection or other with this wonderful place.
