What a spectacle a busy market presents! With its hurrying spree, its buying and selling, its shouts and bargaining, we get a panoramic view of the whole scene.

There is a very busy market in the heart of our township; it is called the Benachity Market. The market is of very importance to the in habitants of Durgapur as it provides us with our daily necessities as well as luxuries. On the sides of the main road there are temporary as well as permanent shops and stalls. In the daily market we get fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, and meat. It is generally held in the forenoon. There are small traders in the market who display their goods and brisk trade goes on. The two sides of the roads cover all sorts of shops - the shops of goldsmith, blacksmith, booksellers, cloth dealers, book sellers, TV dealers, shops of utensils, motor tyre dealers, shops of readymade garments, and confectionery shops – all throng there. A cinema hall is also situated there to recreate people. The market gets crowded in the morning, especially when all the office goers are in a hurry to buy things of their daily necessities. As there is no fixity of price in the market, bargaining with the shop keepers go on which proves to be a long struggle, a waste of time, as well as a severe trial of patience for the customers. The hubbub caused by the bargaining between shopkeepers and customers in this busy market is sometimes almost deafening. The road also gets congested with buses, mini buses, and passers by.  Another striking feature of this busy market is the presence of cows and buffaloes which becomes a menace to the passers by. The shopkeepers of the permanent shops remain in their shops for the whole day. In the evening, the busy market assumes a gallant look, various shops sparkle with lights and well dressed ladies and children appear on the scene making the sight very attractive.  They are in no hurry, they just amble along. The customers select their goods and keep a careful eye on the weighing machine. After they are satisfied, they pay for the goods to take them home.

This market, however, is a part and parcel of the city life without which we cannot do. It is very useful as it provides us with our daily necessities as well as helps in trade. Indeed the picture of busy market is kaleidoscopic and has a charm of its own.

I have seen this market from my childhood. As we get everything from this market I like this market very much, though it is very congested.
