Shaheed Minar was also known as Ochterlony Monument and this was built in 1825 by Major General Sir David Ochterlony who served as the commander of the British East India Company. It was rededicated in August 1969 to the martyrs of the Indian freedom movement and at that time it was renamed as Shaheed Minar.

The monument has a Syrian upper portion and Turkish dome and has two balconies with a jig jagging staircase with 223 steps to reach the top. From this monument you can have the birds’ eye view of the city.
