Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra is the most populous and the richest city in India. There are seven islands that constitute Mumbai namely Bombay Island, Parel, Mazagaon, Mahim, Colaba, Worli and Old Woman’s Island. There is a zoo named Jitamata Udyaan and a renowned museum named Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya situated in Mumbai. There are many Art Deco buildings here and has the largest number of skyscrapers in India also.

 

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Elephanta Caves are the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Other popular places of interest in Mumbai are Nariman Point, Juhu Beach, Marine Drive, Fantasy Land and Essel World. Mumbai is famous for its week long annual fair called Bandra Fair.

 

The two world famous research institutions namely the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and the Bhabha Atomic Research Center are situated here. Apart from them there are many famous educational institutions namely Indian Institute of Technology, University Institute of Chemical Technology, Grant Medical College, Government Law college and Seth G.S. Medical College, etc.

 

The tourism in Mumbai is also promoted by its sports activities. The international cricket grounds Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium are the two main places where international cricket matches are held. People from all over India come to Mumbai to watch them.
