Yogi Ramsuratkumar Biography

Yogi Ramsuratkumar, often referred to as "Visiri samiyar" was a mystic saint born near Kasi. He was born in a remote village Nardara in Uttar Pradesh. He didn’t accept any rituals or traditions to become a yogi. Yet he later moved to Thiruvanamalai of Tamil Nadu, where he spent his life as a spiritual leader. He is noted for recording the biographies of three great Indian saints - Ramana Maharishi, Papa Ramdas and Sri Aurobindo.

He was born on 1 December 1918 in Nardara, UP in a middle class peasant family. He was drawn towards spiritual people and yogis at a younger age. Later he started his search for his spiritual guru who could guide him to the right spiritual path. His spiritual mission started in the year 1947. He met numerous holy men by the riverside of Ganges, yet was not able to find his guru. After spending a brief time in the ashrams of Sri Aurobindo and Ramana Maharishi, he moved to Kerala. Sri Aurobindo gave him Jnana and Sri Maharshi blessed him with tapas. He was initiated into holy mantra by Swami Ramdas. According to him, the holy mantra - "Om Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram" gave him the profound spiritual experience he was searching till then. Ramdas pronounced this mantra three times to his ears.

After travelling many places, he finally settled at Thiruvanamalai. Slowly people started acknowledging his divine presence and people came to seek his blessings. Later he accepted the ashram handed over to him by his followers, where he used to bless his devotees. Amarakavyam records his life history.
