Vijay Kumar Biography
Vijay Kumar is an Indian sportsman participating in the shooting events. He got a chance to represent India in 2012 London Olympics and worked his way to win the silver medal in the individual 25 m rapid fire pistol event. He was born in 1985 in Harsour village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
His father is Bankur Ram Sharma. Vijay Kumar is employed at Indian army as a subedar. He started his medal hunt in 2006 Commonwealth Games and in that he won two gold medals in the individual and pairs event of 25 meter rapid fire pistol. Then he went on to win the bronze medal in the Asian Games 2006 and in 2007, he grabbed the Asian Championships in the 25 m center fire pistol.
In 2010 Commonwealth Games he was able to grab 3 gold medals and one silver medal in rapid fire pistol pairs and singles events and in center fire pistol pairs and individual events. In recognition to his talents, he was awarded Arjuna Award in 2007 by the Government of India.
In the 2012 Olympics, he was in the scene together with Pupo and Feng and when Feng missed twice in the seventh round, he ascended in the scale. He got a total score of 585 breaking the previous Olympic record of 583. He dedicated his victory to his father and mother and owes his thanks to the Indian army.
With the support of Olympic Gold Quest initiative he was able to get a big victory. Immediately after his achievement, Prem Kumar Dhumal, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh had announced a cash reward of one crore rupees. Together with this, his name had been recommended for Himachal Gaurav Award.
