Manjit Chillar Biography

Manjeet Chillar is an Indian professional Kabaddi player who hails from Nizampur, Haryana. Former member of the India national kabaddi team, he was a member of the Indian national Kabaddi team that won Asian gold medals and Asian Indoor Games in 2014. He has been a team member of 2018 Dubai Kabaddi Masters, held in Dubai. He was conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2012 for his contributions towards the field. He was also the member of state team of Haryana. Manjit is a gold medalist in the National Championships for three consecutive years in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He has been associated with Pro Kabaddi League, and has served as the captain and team member for different teams at different points of time.

 

Manjeet Chillar was born on 18 August 1986 in Nizampur, Haryana. In his professional career in Kabaddi, he has earned some nicknames such as One Man Army, Angry Young Man, Mighty Manjeet etc. Chillar was initially a wrestler. But an injury in nose prompted him to change the game. Once he returned back to village, he started playing Kabaddi. Chillar was a team member of Indian team which won the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup Gold. He was also a team member of national Kabaddi team which won Asian games gold medal in 2014 and Asian Indoor Games in 2014 in Incheon.

 

During Pro Kabaddi League season 1 and 2, he served as the captain of Bangaluru Bulls, followed by Puneri Paltan in next two seasons. In the 5th season, he served as the captain of Jaipur Pink Panthers. For the upcoming 6th season of the league, he is associated with Tamil Thalaivas. In the second season, he was awarded the most valuable player of the league. Chhillar is the highest scoring defender in Star Sports Pro Kabaddi.

 

There are some interesting facts about India’s favourite Kabaddi player. To join junior Indian National team, he shed 12 kgs within one month. Chhillar is the only player to have featured among the top 10 raiders and top 10 defenders in a Pro Kabaddi season. When he is free (during off seasons) he trains kids of his village to play Kabaddi. He is a fashion freak.
