Umar Alisha Biography

Kavisekhara Dr. Umar Alisha was an Indian administrator who served as the sixth Peethadhipathi of Sri Viswa Viznana Vidya Adhyatmika Peetham in Pithapuram, succeeding his father. He has also authored more than 50 works in Telugu, mostly belonging to poetry genre. He actively participated in the Khilafat Movement, a unique battle against the British rulers, during his years as a student. He also remained a member of Indian National Congress during 1916 – 1930. He was a member of Education Committee of Banaras Hindu University. He was given the title “Moulvi” by Aligarh Muslim University, and a honorary doctorate by International Academy of America in 1936.

 

Dr. Umar Alisha was born on 28 February 1885 in Pithapuram of Andhra Pradesh. His father Mohiddin Badusha I served as the fifth Peethadhipathi of Sri Viswa Viznana Vidya Adhyatmika Peetham in Pithapuram. As a student Umar participated in freedom struggle movement. He was a student of Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medical School, when he participated in Khilafat Movement. The arrest of national leader Maulana Mohammad Ali was one of the reasons which propelled the fuel inside his heart to join freedom struggle movement. He remained an active politician of Congress party too.

 

Most of his works were filled with patriotism, and a few of them were based on women empowerment. Spiritual philosophy and social evils like dowry are other themes he dealt with. He also wrote a few plays like Kala and Chandra Gupta. He authored more than 50 books in Telugu, which include – Tatva Sandesham, Danava Vadha, Mani Mala, Shantha, Maha Bharatha Kourava Rangamu, Sufi Vedanta Darsamu, Anasuya Devi, Vishada Soundaryamu, Vichitra Bhilvaneeyamu, Brahma Vidya Vilasamu, Omar Khayyam, Parathatva Keerthanalu, Khanda Kavyamulu, Barhini Devi, Sadhana Padhamu, Prabhata Kathavali and Padmavathi.
