Uday Bhanu Hans Biography

Uday Bhanu Hans is a celebrated Hindi poet from the state of Haryana. He was bestowed with the title of the state poet (Rajya Kavi) of Haryana, when the state was formed in 1966 after Indian independence. Haryana Sahitya Akademi award, Sur Puruskar in 2006 and Haryana Sahitya Rattan Samman 2009 by Haryana Sahitya academy are some of the major honours received by him. He is currently settled in Hissar, and serves as a member of advisory committee of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, and also the secretary of Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi.

 

Uday Bhanu was born on 2 August 1926 at Daira Din Panah in Muzaffargarh district of British India. Now this place belongs to Pakistan. After the partition of India, his family shifted to Hisar. He was 21 years old then. He studied Master of Arts in Hindi language and later started his professional career in teaching field, and remained in this field for many years till his retirement. He taught Hindi literature. He retired as principal of Government College, Hisar and now he is settled here in Lajpat Nagar. Noted Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma was one of his students at Hisar, and the actor himself has quoted that Uday Bhanu remains one of the most influential teachers of his life.

 

An eminent poet from Hisar, Haryana, some of his best poetry collections include - Bhedion Ke Dhang, Hans Muktavali, Sant Sipahi, Desan Mein Des Haryana and Sankh aur Shehnai. He expressed his thoughts and views through poems, verses and songs. He is quite popular with the name, ‘Rubai Samrat’. His Hindi Rubayiyaan got published in 1952. Rubai is a verse form of Persian origin consisting of four-line stanzas, which is popularly used in Hindi language for writing songs.
