Sushma Verma (Cricketer) Biography

Sushma Verma is a female cricketer who currently serves as right-hand batswoman and wicket keeper for the national female team. She has played 30 ODI, 19 T20 and 1 Test match till now. Following her excellent performance in 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup, Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh offered her a post of Deputy Superintendent of Police. She was a member of the team which played against England in the final of the most prestigious cricket tournament. However India fell short by just 9 runs in the final. She marked her international debut in the year 2014 and played the first match of both formats (Test and ODI) against South Africa.

Sushma Verma was born on 3 November 1992 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Though her father Bhopal Singh Verma wanted her to stay back close to the family, young Sushma wanted to school at Portmore Govt Model School in Shimla, which offered different sporting events to school kids. Thus since school days she played volleyball, handball, and badminton, and represented her state in all these games till national level. However she got drawn towards the game of cricket, and later concentrated on to this only.

She played for the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association and later played domestic cricket for Himachal Pradesh, before she was picked up for national team in 2014. She has also served as the team captain of Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket, and as a captain she led her team to the finals of Under-19 All-India women's tournament in 2011, where they finished as runner-ups. It’s her most outstanding performance as a captain for domestic cricket. Later she became the the first cricketer from Himachal Pradesh in national team, from either genders. She has scored a total of 175 runs from 35 ODIs she played till now.
