One of the best of Hindi detective writers Surender Mohan Pathak is an author is considered king og crime fiction with nearly 300 novels to his credit.  He was born on February 19in the year 1940 in Lahore and came to settle in Delhi. He has so far written more than 300 novels under crime and detective category besides many collections of jokes and social novels. Incidentally he started his career as a a translator of famous crime and mistry write James Hadley Chase.

Surender Mohan Pathak came in writing world for the love of his hobby as he was engaged Indian Telephone Industries as a junior engineer posted at Delhi and fan of writing of detective novels; He started with translations James Hadley Chase and Ian Fleming written James Bond novels. Incidentally he also wrote his own James Bond series and few books based on Frederick Forsyth's novels too.

His major work consist of "Sunil" series, with Inspector Prabhu Dayal as his major competititor as well helper and Ramakant a rich private club owner as his main supporter whenever he needed help. It is said that both these charectors are authors real friends in his offline life. Surender Mohan Pathak says Sunil is a man in his 30s (when the author began the writing job) has a very helpful nature especially when it comes to damsels in distress, which according to Pathak resembles to his own character or he dreamet it was part of his own character. 

The only difference is Pathak is an engineer and Sunil is a debonair and upright investigative journalist for the fictional daily newspaper that helped him serve the purpose. There is another fiction work by Surender Mohan Pathak the philosopher detective Sudhir Kohli in another series that consists of 21 novels and delineates Delhi's fast and material life with the hero's viewpoint which Surender Mohan Pathak thinks closer to his personal character. As mentioned above Surender Mohan Pathak also has a great sense of humor and published 25 or more collection of Joke Books.
