Sunil Joshi Biography

Sunil Joshi is a former Indian cricketer for National cricket team, who played as a spinner in the second half of 1990s. He was an all-rounder who bowls slow left arm spin and bats left-handed, and was a member of several test and ODI matches for team India during the period, 1996-2001. He has played 15 test matches and 69 ODIs for team India since 1996, for a period of 6 years. He has also played first class and domestic cricket. He has claimed 41 test matches and 69 ODI wickets, apart from 615 FC wickets and 192 LA wickets. Joshi formally announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2012.

 

Sunil Joshi hails from Gadag, Karnataka. He had so much passion about cricket that he used to travel 40 miles to Hubballi each morning for practice and then return to his hometown for his school studies before classes start in mornings. He started playing cricket in state level since 1990s, and made his international debut in ODI and Test in year 1996. He played his first test match against England on 6 June 1996 and first ODI against Zimbabwe on 1st September 1996. Quite interestingly he played his last test match against the same team in year 2000. He played last ODI on28 March 2001 v Australia before he was dropped from national team.

 

He played as an all-rounder in domestic cricket since mid-1990s, and has played some outstanding matches in Ranji trophy. He scored 500 runs and took 50 wickets in 1995–96 season of the Ranji Trophy, which gave him a direct entry to national team. He has also played IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008 and 2009. His contract with the team ended in 2010.
