Smriti Mandhana Biography

Smriti Mandhana is an Indian female cricketer from Mumbai who has been a member of women’s national team since 2013. She is a left-handed batswoman for her team who has played 2 test matches, 44 ODI and 52 T20 matches for team India scoring 81, 1602 and 1046 runs respectively. In 2016 she along with Harmanpreet Kaur, became one of the first two Indians to be signed up with Brisbane Heat for the Women's Big Bash League. In 2018 she was named in the Hobart Hurricanes' squad for the 2018–19 Women's Big Bash League season. Earlier that year she became the first Indian to play in Kia Super League when she was signed by defending champions Western Storm.

 

Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana was born on 18 July 1996 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Smita and Shrinivas Mandhana are her parents. Later the family moved to Madhavnagar, Sangli where they got settled. Smriti’s school education was done there. Her father is a chemical distributor and her family members are big fans of cricket. Both her father and elder brother have represented Sangli in cricket matches at the district-level. After watching her brother live playing for Maharashtra in one such domestic match Smriti got deeply influenced by it and decided to pursue cricket. She was only 9 when she was selected in the Maharashtra's Under-15 team, and at the age of only 11 she became a member of Maharashtra Under-19s team.

 

For her cricketing career she received big support from the family. While her father takes care of her cricket programme, her mother is strict about her diet. In 2013 she created history when she scored a double century in an ODI, and she became the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. She scored an unbeaten 224 off 150 balls in the West Zone Under-19 Tournament against Gujarat. Same year she joined national team.
