Shobhaa De Biography

Shobhaa De is a noted writer from India. She writes novels as well as columns for popular magazines. She is also the writer of many of Indian soaps on television. India’s first two soaps aired on Doordarshan during mid 1990’s – Shanti and Swabhimaan were written by Shobhaa. She began her career as a journalist in 1970. A few of her published books include – Speed post, Socialite Evenings, Starry Nights and Second thoughts. Now she also works as a freelancer and columnist for several newspapers and magazines including ‘The Times of India’ and ‘Asian Age’.

 

Shobhaa De was born in Girgaon, Mumbai on 7 January 1948. She completed her schooling from Queen Mary School, and graduated from the St. Xavier's College, Mumbai with a degree in psychology. She has also worked as a model for a few years. She began a career in journalism in 1970 and served as an editor of leading magazines like Stardust, Society, and Celebrity. Film magazine, Star Dust which was started in the year 1971 became popular with the editorship of Shobhaa De. She used to explore the society life of celebrities and their life styles in Mumbai through her columns which became immensely popular.

 

Shobhaa has also participated in several literary festivals, not only in India, but also abroad. Shobhaa has married twice in life. She has two kids, Aditya and Avantika from her first marriage with Kilachand. In 1984 she married a widower with two kids. She met business typhoon Dilip De in 1981 and got married in 1984. The couple has two kids, Arundhati and Anandita. A few of her published books include - Spouse: The truth about marriage, Snapshots, Uncertain Liaisons, Strange Obsession, Sandhya’s secret, Selective Memory and Surviving man.
