Samit Basu Biography

Samit Basu is an established young writer from India known as novelist, graphic novelist and screenwriter. He is most known for The GameWorld Trilogy work - The Simoqin Prophecies, The Manticore's Secret and The Unwaba Revelations with fantasy as the main theme. Terror on the Titanic a YA novel and Turbulence are other noted works. The sequel to his recent and successful work, Turbulence, titled "Resistance" is to be published in July 2014. Currently Basu resides in Delhi. Samit’s trilogy was published by Penguin Books India in the years, 2004, 2005 and 2007. He has published 6 books till now. In 2003, his name was listed in Outlook magazine's list of 16 Indian achievers under 25.

 

Samit was born in Kolkata in December 14, 1979. His schooling was done at Don Bosco School and later he studied Economics at Presidency College, Kolkata. After graduation he dropped out of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, but studied a course in broadcasting and documentary filmmaking at the University of Westminster, London. Basu wrote his first novel The Simoqin Prophecies, when he was 22 and published it one year later. This book, published in English was later translated to German and Swedish languages.

 

Next two volumes of the trilogy, The Manticore's Secret and The Unwaba Revelations were released in 2005 and 2007 respectively and all the three books were listed under bestsellers. Terror on the Titanic and Turbulence just carried forward the success and he received international acclaim. Turbulence in 2012 introduced Samit Basu to the West and it received good reviews. Basu is also a comics’ writer. Devi and The Tall Tales of Vishnu Sharma were his initial projects. His projects also include graphic novels.
