Ramesh Chandra Jha Biography

Ramesh Chandra Jha was an Indian writer and freedom fighter who lived in the 20th century. He wrote poems, ghazals, stories, novels etc and his works were filled with patriotism and inspiration to fight against British. Romanticism and struggle, dreams and hopes of human life are his main subjects.    Murlika, Swagtika, Megh-geet, Chalo-Dilli and Priyamvada are his published poetry works. He has also published many historic novels in fiction category and Surma Sagun Bichare Na is his Bhojpuri fiction novel. Apne Aur Sapne –his non-fiction novel is a literary journey of Champaran through which he traces the rich literary heritage of Champaran, Bihar. It also briefly introduces the young poets then - Dinesh Bhramar and Pandey Ashutosh of 1960s. In the book, 'Bihar through the Ages' the struggles and hardships of Jha are neatly described.  

 

Jha belonged to Phulwariya of East Champaran district in Bihar, born in the year 1925. He schooled at Hazarimal High School, Raxaul. Jha became a rebellion in the teens and was dismissed from school for organizing protests against British. He was a student leader at school then and he frequently used to rob British police stations. He was convicted for a police robbery when he was 14. He participated in freedom struggle movement, apart from writing on patriotism and has been jailed several times for his rebellious nature. He actively participated in Quit India Movement in 1942 and was jailed.

 

While at jail he studied Indian literature, and after independence instead of joining politics he chose writing as his career. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, father of Amitabh Bachchan was his contemporary poet and a good friend. Mazaar Ka Diya, Raav-Hammir and Kunvar Singh are among his historic novels.
