Palani Bharathi Biography

Palani Bharathi is a Tamil poet and lyricist of Tamil film industry. He gained attention as a poet and lyricist quite at a younger age and still now continues his momentum. He is one of the youngest lyricists of Tamil cine world as well. He entered film industry in 1991 and has penned lyrics for almost all leading music composers of the industry including – Rahman, Ilayaraja and Vidyasagar. His father, Saami Palaniappan is also a great poet. In 1998 he has been honoured with Kalaimamani and Kalai Vitthakar Kannadasan Award by government of Tamil nadu. In 1997, Kathalukku Mariathai earned Tamil Nadu state award for best lyricist. Muththangkalin pazhakkuudai, Kaarrin kaiyezhuththu, Neruppu Paarvaigal, Kaathalin Pin Kathavu, Thanimaiyil vilaiyaadum bommai, Veli Nadappu and Mazhaippenn are among his noted collections of poems.

 

Palani was born in a literal family. His father Saami Palaniappan is also a great poet and a great disciple of Poet Bharathidasan. Palani received attention at a younger age and got good comments for his work from many prominent Tamil writers. Since childhood he has seen his house filled with only books. He grew watching his father’s speeches as well as writings and thus he too dreamt to build a career in writing. He wrote his first poem while studying in the 8th standard and it was to describe a waterfall. He never missed any elocution since his school days and won many prizes as well. He regularly attended kavi arangams as well.

 

He started his career as a journalist as the sub-editor of “Thaai”, a weekly magazine. But he resigned the job as it was not enough to financially support the family. But very soon he got opportunity to become a lyricist and the rest is history. Ullathe allitha, Poove Unakkage, Kaalamellam Kadhal Vaazhga, Ninaithen Vandhai , badri, Friends, Nanda, Azhagi, Kaadhal Kondein, Perazhagan, Pitamagan, Jayam, Aval varuvaya,  Methukudi, Kasi, Arunachalam and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai are among his noted works as a lyricist. His songs for Ullathai Alli Tha bagged him Cinema express award for best lyricist for the year 1996.
