Niranjan Iyengar Biography

Niranjan Iyengar is a noted writer, best known as a dialogue writer, screenwriter and lyricist associated with Bollywood. As a writer he is best known for the book - The Making of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a non-fictional book on the making of Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham starring Big and Shah Rukh Khan. He is also a TV host who hosts the show - 'Look Who's talking with Niranjan', aired on ZEE Café. As a lyricist, his most popular song is Chammak Chalo of Ra-One, which he penned aside Vishal Dadlani.Kal Ho Na Ho is his best work as a dialogue writer which won him several nominations. Frequently associated with Karan Johar and Shah Rukh, he penned the lyrics of the popular songs of My Name is Khan.

Karan Johar has been a close friend of him long before he made Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The movie known for its fantastic star cast became an interesting subject to write on. It was for the first time in Indian film history, such ruling stars belonging to almost three generations come under a common roof for a single film. The movie starred glorious stars of 1970s – Amitabh Bachan and his wife Jaya, super Jodi of 1990s – Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, and the new stars of new millennium – Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. It was Niranjan who gave the idea to Karan Johar to write a book on the making of the film. But later Karan gave that project to Niranjan.

Associated with Karan Johar, he also penned dialogues for Kal Ho Naa Ho, which bagged him nominations at Star Screen Awards and Zee Cine Awards. His lyrics for "Sajda" and "Noor-e-Khuda" from Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan earned him Filmfare nomination for best lyricist. He wrote dialogues for Bollywood movies such as Kurbaan, Heartless, Student of the Year, Heroine, Wake Up Sid, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Jism, Kya Love Story Hai, Fashion, We are Family, Ra. One etc.
