Nalin Vilochan Sharma, was born in Patna on February 16, 1916 as Ram Avatar’s fourth son. Drishtikon, Swarna Manjusha, Satrah asangrahit purv choti kahaniya, Sahitya ka Itihaas Darshan, Jagjivan Ram: A Biography and Naken ke Prapadya were his published works. A few of his works – Mandand, Naken -2, Hindi Upanyas: visheshtah Premchand and Sahitya: Tatva aur alochna were published posthumously. He has also edited a few works.

From an early age, he was taught great works in Sanskrit by his father who was a great scholar. Thus he learnt Amarkosh, Kalidas's Meghdoot and Suryashatakam in his childhood. His father was keen in giving him knowledge at a younger age so that it will sustain throughout his life and influence him a lot. But he died when Nalin was only 12 and later, he was taken care of by his sister, Indumati. Nalin married Punjabi painter Kumud Sharma.

Sharma joined Patna University as a lecturer in the Hindi department. He was well versed in European literature also. In west it was the trend of Marxist ideas in poetry while Chayavaad style completely dominated Hindi literature during the period 1935-1950. It was followed by Pragativaad writing style and Nalin too joined the phase with his own distinct and new style – Nakenwad and revolutionary ideas. He fetched topics from immediate past and the surrounding present, and believed that topics chosen should never be too old or those belonging to classic era. Nalin Vilochan Sharma, Kesari Kumar and Sri Naresh are together regarded as the pioneers of Nakenwad writing style.
