M. K. Sanu Biography

M. K. Sanu is a noted writer from Malayalam literature. He is a retired professor, critic, biographer, editor, translator, journalist, orator, social activist and humanist. Till now, he has published 36 books, translated 4 and edited 10. He has inspired younger generations a lot through his quality work. He is also the founding member of Mithram, School for Mentally Handicapped at Mulanthuruthy. He is a permanent member of International body for Human rights. In 2011, he received prestigious Kendra Sahitya Academy award for Basheer: Ekantha Veedhiyile Avadhoothan – Biography work. In 2011, he received Padmaprabha literary prize. Ezhutachan Puraskam – highest literary honour of Kerala state, V.K. Rajan Award for the best Social Activist and Asan Award for the Biography "Mruthyunjayam Kavyajeevitham" are other major honours received by him.

 

M. K. Sanu was born on October 27, 1928 at Thumpoli in Alappuzha, Kerala. At the age of 11, he lost his father. In 1953 he married Ratnamma. Two years later, he Joined Sree Narayana College, Kollam as Lecturer. Next year, he joined Maharaja's College, Ernakulam. His first book was published in the year 1958. It was a translation work - "Anchu Sastra Nayakanmar". In 1960, he published first book of Criticism, "Kaattum Velichavum" and in 1962, he published first book of Biography, "Asthamikkatha Velicham". In 1981, he received SPCS Award for the best Biography for the book "Sahodaran. K. Ayyappan" and in 1985 he received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the best Critical work for "Avadhaaranam".

 

Sanu’s works include travelogues, interpretations, biographies, essays, memorials and critics’ works. He has also written books on children literature - Sree Narayana Gurudevan, Sree Narayana Guru and Jeevithasanuvil. He has also edited a few works. His memorials are Thaazhvarayile Sandhya and Ivar Lokathe Snehichavar. Sree Narayana Sandhesam and Sree Narayana Sandhesam are his noted essay collections.
